Well I don't know if you've heard, but it seems like we've been assigned to work together! At least for the next few weeks, anyway! And I should warn you right now that I'm brand new to this whole warden-inmate thing, so I'm not really sure where we should start! Do you have any ideas?

I saw that you get to stay paired up with Wiktor, that's all! You were so excited to get assigned to him, so I wanted to say no hard feelings, and congrats!

...after reading the file. Because of course he read the file. Though he also has his own with him, tucked in his jacket to offer up if Istradez is amenable to such a thing.

The reading was certainly illuminating, after all, and while he lacks some of the political understanding of all that happened to his new charge, he can figure out enough to have some inkling of the problem presented. It's certainly not one that his own country is lacking, after all.

All the same: he might not need to snap every hallway or so, but he's going to. Best not to let his own skills go to pot. ]

Istradez is currently pretending not to have noticed the fact that his pairing has becoming permanent with someone he doesn't actually hate.

He's sitting in a common room on the fourth floor, knitting in hand, watching one of his dramas on the screen. He hears familiar snapping and looks over but doesn't call out; Wiktor will find him easily enough without the extra effort.

Wiktor doesn't mind. Instead, he will hold up a hand in greeting and dip his head in further greeting before making his way over. He will wait for the time being; clearly, Istradez is doing something. He won't interrupt.

a couple days before the breach

Mikodez finds Istradez watching something in their - technically just his, but that's much the same technicality as 'his' room back when they lived at home - cabin. He sits down, fitting his way into the gaps so he can be close. He's showered, so there's only a touch of salt underneath.

Swimming takes a lot out of you!

Enough that he's tired enough to rest even if his thoughts going far too fast for anything like sleep.

Istradez moves only slightly to bring him close and gives him a small kiss in greeting. "You've been to the pool," he remarks because if there's one thing he learned from the Shous, it's how to pick up those small cues.

"Ulla?"

"Mm. Yes. There must be some protection from pressure in her charms, but you can still feel the weight of the water." It's not bad. He doesn't like the halfway point between air and water, but beneath that had been pretty fun.

So there was an incident recently that meant I’ve had to dispose of some of my wardrobe, and I’ve been curious what you might put me in, were you given the chance…?

[He looks different than he does in all the historical shots. Quite apart from the lack of uniform, the plaid and the cowboy hat he picked up from the wardrobe, he's older, for the first time in four hundred years. His hair is a little longer than regulation, although shorter than Cho Jedao's, and he's starting to get a hint of laugh lines at the corners of his eyes. His shoulders are broader, and his faint slice of a neck scar is back, but more faded.

And of course there's the signifier, the crown of eyes crowding the wall behind him to get a look at Istradez.]

[The fear doesn't ever leave. Jedao is a boogeyman, the scapegoat, especially in the Citadel. Just because her nephew wears his face and she loves him dearly doesn't mean that the presence of Jedao with that signifier fails to startle her.]

I know that.
